Al-Mutakabbir - The Supreme

Arabic:

kabara - to exceed in age, be older, to be or become great, big, large
kibr - bigness, largeness, magnitude, greatness, eminence, grandeur, significance, importance, pride, haughtiness, arrogance (one of the major sins in Al-Islam).
kabir - great, big, large, sizeable, formidable, powerful, influential, eminent
akbar - greater, bigger, larger, older
takbir - enlargement, increase, exaggeration, praise, laudation, extolment ( to shout Allahu Akbar!)
Qur'an:

He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god; the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him).(59: 23)
﴿٢٣﴾

Shaykh Tosun
:

  • He is the greatest and shows greatness in everything
  • No creature has the right to assume this name.
  • The first to become arrogant and claim greatness was Iblis/Shaytan/Satan
  • People who follow Shaytan believe the power, intelligence, knowledge, etc lent to them by Allah is theirs and become proud
  • Man's beginning is small (a fertilized egg in his mother's womb) and his end is limp cold corpse that turns into dust.
  • Allah will humiliate the proud man
    • hadith qudsi:  "Pride is my cloak and greatness is my robe.  And anyone who competes with me in respect of either, I will cast into the Fire."
  • "The ones who wish to feel the divine attribute of al-Mutakabbir will find it only when they work hard to try to achieve the highest level of their potential, while never boasting of or even revealing their greatness.
  • "Abd al-Mutakabbir is he who is shown his smallness and greatness of Allah.  His egotism and pride are effaced and replaced by the greatness of Allah reflected in him.  He is safe from being belittled and bows to none other than the Truth."
  • If a married couple recites ya Mutakabbir 10 times before making love, they may have a righteous child.

Al-Khaliq
- The Creator

Arabic:

khalaqa - to create, make, originate, to shape, form, mold
khalq - creation, making, origination, a creation, creatures, people, man, mankind
khulq - innate peculiarity, natural disposition, character, temper, nature (pl. akhlaq)
khaliq - the creator
makluq - created, created being

Qur'an
:

اللَّهُ خَالِقُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ ۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَكِيلٌ [٣٩:٦٢]
Allah is the Creator of every thing and He has charge over every thing. (39:62)

Say: Is there any one among your associates who can bring into existence the creation in the first instance, then reproduce it? Say: Allah brings the creation into existence, then He reproduces it; how are you then turned away? (100:34)

Shaykh Tosun
:

  • He is the one who invents and creates from nothing and maintains all that he created.
  • Everything from the beginning to the end of created existences has been established in goodness and wisdom.
  • There are no accidents in the universe.
  • Al-Khaliq does not need the creation.
  • "I was a hidden treasure  I loved to be known, so I created creation."
  • "Allah has created all for humanity and humanity for himself."
  • 'Abd al-Khaliq - The one in whom Al-Khaliq is manifest sees the universe reflected in him, for he knows everything that surrounds him.  Thus he knows himself: he even knows the unseen, spiritual beings.  Such knowledge is the recreating of the created in our minds.  That is the true extent of human creativity.
  • If such a person recites the name al-Khaliq nightly, while keeping its meaning in his heart, Allah will create an angel especially for him who will pray for him till the end of time.

Al-Bari' - The Evolver

Arabic:

bara'a - According to the Arabic Lexicon means "it was or has become clear or free from a thing" - Something that was part of a whole has now become a disinct reality or existence.

Qur'an:

هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ
He is Allah the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner...  (59:24)

Hadith:

Imam `Ali (a.s.) said: "He initiated creation most initially and commenced it originally, without undergoing reflection, without making use of any experiment, without innovating any movement, and without experiencing any aspiration of mind. He allotted all things their times, put together their variations gave them their properties, and determined their features knowing them before creating them, realising fully their limits and confines and appreciating their propensities and intricacies."

Shaykh Tosun:

  • He is the one who orders His creation with perfect harmony -- not only is each thing harmonious within itself, but everything is in accordance with everything else.
  • The universe works like a clock -- everything is connected, working together.
  • Allah al-Bari' gave yo intelligence to help you know your Creator.
  • He gave you freedom of will and choice so that you may choose right from wrong.
  • Denying the existence of the Creator will be denying the universal harmony; you will end up destroying yourself.
  • `Abd al-Bari' is someone who is saved from incongruity, error, injustice, and confusion.
  • Such a person acts in harmony with nature and can inspire others to do the same.
